Monument
Valley March, Monument Valley is a flat, sandy
landscape interrupted by colorful red buttes and spires that rise
hundreds of feet into the air. The valley lies in southern Utah
and northern Arizona and is completely within the Navaho reservation.
The stunning landscape was recognized by Hollywood as a spectacular
backdrop for western films. Monument Valley March, an exciting piece
written for string orchestra, may make you think of movie scenes
with the fast action of cowboys on their horses galloping across
the open areas of the dramatic landscape of Monument Valley

Rondino on a melody
of Beethoven, by Kreisler, arr. Gazda
Beethoven used the rondo form quite often and Fritz Kreisler,
the famous violinist and composer, found a Beethoven melody and
turned it into this “little rondo” or Rondino written
originally for violin and piano. The arrangement for string orchestra
is delightfully happy and easy to perform.

Sonoran
Sunset, The Sonoran Desert
is also noted for its spectacular sunsets which boast colors of
gold, orange, rosy red and purple. Night after night, people who
live in the desert enjoy the colorful light shows that dance across
the sky from sunset to dusk. “Sonoran Sunset” is a musical
rendition of some of the feelings I experience while watching the
setting sun, the glorious colors that light up the sky and the eventual
fading of daylight into a starlit night.

Studies in Lyricism
By practicing
etudes that emphasize lyricism, string students will learn techniques
that greatly enhance the development of total musicianship.
These studies have been
carefully chosen from the vocalises of Concone, Marchesi and Panofka
and are organized in a progressive order for advancing students.
A variety of keys have been selected starting with the easiest ones
for string instruments to the more difficult. Also, the rhythmic
values in the studies progress in order from the simplest to the
more complex.
